I am currently Editor-in-Chief of the academic journal International Political Sociology which explores transversal formations of global politics. My co-editors Vicki Squire, Roxanne Doty, Alex Hall and I are keen to encourage critical approaches to global politics that are ambitious, innovative and creative in ways that trouble conventional understandings of the International.

I was involved in an ESRC funded project (2012-2014) examining the political imaginaries of scientists and engineers as they constructed a portable CBRNE detection device to be used at international land, sea and air borders. We followed a group of scientists and engineers from across Europe as they collaborated on this new technology, and explored how their understandings of borders, security, risk, threat and uncertainty shaped the construction of e device itself.

I was involved I an ESRC funded project (2014-2016) examining the differential treatment of people and objects as they move through border sites. This project was focused on highly technologized EU and UK borders, and traced how the movement of people and objects is governed through multiple registers (e.g. legal frameworks about human rights; capacities of technology; professional relationships; mundane practices of surveillance).
